Chemical products from Yunnan's forest industry hold a high share of the international market.


Currently, Yunnan Province has 75 forest chemical manufacturing enterprises and more than 400 distributors. Major products include rosin (gum rosin), turpentine, eucalyptus oil, shellac, litsea cubeba (May Chang) oil, tannic acid, gutta-percha, activated carbon, cork products, camphor oil, tung oil, and others. Among these, rosin, turpentine, eucalyptus oil and shellac are export items that earn foreign exchange. There are over 40 rosin producers with a combined annual production capacity of 100,000 tons, producing 65,000 tons of rosin and 17,300 tons of turpentine per year, ranking third nationally; natural aromatics account for 30% of the country’s total natural-aromatic output, with exports making up about 15% of the nation’s total export volume and nearly 200 premium fragrance varieties; seven eucalyptus-oil (blue gum eucalyptus) enterprises have an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons, and their export volume represents over 90% of the global market; traditional specialty shellac products account for more than 90% of the country’s output, with 12 producing enterprises and an annual production capacity of 3,000 tons.
